Thakur Demands Arrest of AIMIM Leader

Himachal Pradesh Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur has demanded the arrest of AIMIM Delhi Chief Shoaib Jamai. His demand arises after Jamai visited the Sanjauli mosque, which officials sealed over allegations of illegal construction.

Thakur mounted an attack on AIMIM and its chief Asaduddin Owaisi, accusing it of confining its activities to one particular community. He said that the party’s leaders always make controversial statements. “Owaisi heads a party which is confined to one community, whose tendency is to make inflammatory comments. A party leader comes to Shimla and goes to a sealed mosque. He makes videos there and compares it with another building, saying this one is taller. Because a building is taller, that itself doesn’t make it illegal.”

The controversy flared up again when Shoaib Jamai visited the mosque and made a video posting on social media. He noted that discriminatory actions targeted the mosque while leaving all other illegal structures untouched. He asked, “Will the bulldozer run on all, or was only the mosque singled out?”

Jamai presented footage of the allegedly illegal constructions surrounding the mosque. He stated that the court should determine the mosque’s legality and announced his intention to file a PIL in the High Court. He asserted, “The law must apply equally to all.”

Jairam Thakur then reiterated his demand for the arrest of Jamai. He said, “I heard that they filed an FIR against him. But merely filing an FIR is not enough. Authorities should make arrests and take stern action.” That shows how grave the issue is and the demands arising thereof.

Sajid Alam, Imam of Sanjauli mosque, blamed Jamai for disrupting the serene atmosphere in Shimla over the same issue. Alam said, “We celebrate festivals and marriages together. Outsiders do not understand our culture and the harmony we share in this region. This situation arose because people from outside, who know nothing about our way of life, came and caused trouble.”

These continuing tensions reflect the complex dynamics of community relations in Shimla. The question of the mosque has thus brought legality and equity in enforcement into question. Shared by local leaders and residents concerned about peace and unity within their community, the controversy lies in the eye of the storm.

That situation is constantly evolving, with local officials and community members interacting on what has indeed been a set of very tough discussions. The call for action against AIMIM’s Shoaib Jamai reflects broader concern about community harmony and legal equality.
