Opposition Plans Strategy Ahead of Winter Session

Opposition gears up for the winter session of Parliament, which starts on November 25. And ends on December 20 unless extended. Congress Lok Sabha MPs will meet at 10:30 AM today at the Congress Parliamentary Office to deliberate their strategy. Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge will host a meeting of the floor leaders of the INDIA bloc from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 10 AM. They will discuss evolving a unified opposition strategy for the session.

Some key issues that may come up for discussion during the session include the ongoing violence in Manipur and the bribery scandal involving the Adani Group. The government has lined up over 10 bills to introduce and move for consideration in the session. These include the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill. Other important bills listed for consideration are the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa’s Assembly Constituencies Bill, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, the Railways Amendment Bill, and the Banking Laws Amendment Bill. The session will also take up the Oilfields Regulation and Development Amendment Bill, among others.
There will be no sittings in both houses on November 26 to mark “Constitution Day.”

The government has already said that it is ready to debate any issue. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called for a smooth and effective session while saying, “Everybody wanted discussions on various issues, and the government is ready. But we want the session to go smoothly, without disruptions. Every member must get a chance, but the House must run properly.”

An all-party meeting was held ahead of the winter session. Attended by the floor leaders of all political parties in both houses. It began at 11 AM in the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

It is going to be an eventful winter session, with many important legislations at stake. While the government wants productive discussions, the opposition vows to raise all major issues concerning the nation. The success of this session is зависит from the cooperation in the hands of all members for a smoothly functioning Parliament.
