King and Carty Help West Indies Beat England, Win Series

Brandon King reflected on West Indies’ eight-wicket win over England in the third ODI, stating he felt “fortunate” to have performed well in the important match.

Brandon King and Keacy Carty steered West Indies to seal the series with a comprehensive victory over England in the third ODI at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. The win secured West Indies a 2-1 series victory over England.

King, at the post-match presentation, hailed Carty’s unbeaten 128-run knock, as fluent and impactful during the run chase. He mentioned, “I had a few good starts before but couldn’t convert them. I’m lucky I was able to do it today in such an important game, and I’m happy with my performance. Once you get past the early phase, you have to believe in yourself and trust that it’s your time.”

King also praised Carty’s role in the win, saying, “He played fluently and came in at a key moment to help us get off to a solid start.”

West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first. A classy opening partnership saw the contribution of England opener Phil Salt, who added 74 runs from 108 deliveries with the help of four 4s and one six. However, the rest of the batting line-up of England failed. There wasn’t a single middle-order partnership that could be stitched, and England could only manage to post 263/8 in their 50 overs.

Matthew Forde, with three for 35, was central to England’s restriction, leading the West Indies’ attack.

King and Carty took over the chase. King played 102 runs from 117 balls, studded with 13 fours and one over six. Carty remained not out on 128 runs off 114 balls, featuring 15 fours and two sixes. Their fabulous performances led the West Indies to an easy eight-wicket victory. For England, amongst the bowlers, Reece Topley and Jamie Overton were the only ones who picked up wickets. But that too was never enough to stop the West Indies.

Eventually, the third ODI ended in an eight-wicket defeat for England.
