The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its fourth list of candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, which includes two names. The last date for filing nominations is today, and the elections are slated to be held on November 20.
Sudhir Laxmanrao Parwe – Umred (SC) and Narendra Lalchandji Mehta – Mira Bhayandar comprised the Fourth List.
Ajit Pawar’s NCP, too, issued its fourth list today with two nominees. While Devendra Bhuyar will contest from Morshi in Solapur district, Shankar Mandekar will contest from Bhor in Pune.
Voters will cast their ballots in all 288 seats in one phase on November 20, and officials will count the votes on November 23.
Candidates filed a total of 4,426 nomination papers for the elections in Maharashtra’s 288 constituencies, according to data from the Chief Election Officer’s office as of October 28. The authorities enforced the Model Code of Conduct for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly General Election on October 15. And they issued the election notification on October 22.
While releasing a joint list, the Congress announced six candidates each for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections on Monday. It fielded four candidates from Maharashtra: Madhurimaraje Malojiraje Chhatrapati from Kolhapur North, Sajid Khan Mannan Khan from Akola West, Heera Devasi from Colaba, and Chetan Narote from Solapur City Central.
With this list, the Congress has, so far, declared its candidates for 102 of the 288 Assembly seats. The Congress is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi with Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. The MVA alliance has declared candidates on 268 seats so far with Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) fielding candidates for 84 and 82 seats respectively.
The election to the Maharashtra Assembly will be held on November 20. The counting for all the constituencies will take place on November 23. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP won 105, Shiv Sena 56 and Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP secured 122, Shiv Sena 63 and Congress 42.
BJP spokesperson Shaina NC joined NDA partner Shiv Sena on Monday. She will contest from the Mumbadevi constituency, currently represented by the Congress’ Amin Patel since 2009. Earlier reports mentioned that the BJP was likely to send her from the Worli constituency. However, Shiv Sena chose Milind Deora as its candidate for that seat setting up a high-profile showdown between Deora and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
