BookMyShow Files FIR on Coldplay Ticket Scalping

Following the black ticketing controversy in the Coldplay concert in India, the online ticket aggregator BookMyShow has filed a First Information Report, or FIR, in Mumbai against unidentified scalpers.

BookMyShow filed a complaint with the Vile Parle Police Station. Against the sale of unauthorized tickets to a concert by Coldplay scheduled for January 2025 at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. Mumbai Police booked unknown persons under Section 66 (C) of the IT Act and relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, BNS. The investigation is in process.

The complaint by BookMyShow also outlines that when its ticket sales commenced on September 22. There was a clear mention of not buying the tickets from third-party resellers. Yet, they received emails regarding the same from two individuals to book bulk tickets. They replied that they would get the tickets on behalf of others and had already collected money from them. BookMyShow also ignored several WhatsApp messages from other people making such requests.

An official spokesperson for BookMyShow said the FIR was filed with the Mumbai Police on October 2, 2023. The official statement on this matter by the spokesperson also read, “In its ongoing fight against ticket scalping for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR. This action follows our initial complaint filed proactively with the Mumbai Police on September 23.”

The company called on the relevant authorities to investigate, against persons and places that were selling tickets in an unauthorized manner. They also detailed resellers found on social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp, among other digital platforms. Including Viagogo and Stubhub Holdings, and provided information to support an investigation by the authorities.

BookMyShow also reiterated that it was “continuously tracking cases of ticket reselling on the black market. BookMyShow is considering the cancellation of all tickets sold maliciously. The spokesperson also stated that the company strongly condemns. And discourages ticket reselling, as it is illegal and punishable in India. “We do not know any third-party unsanctioned ticket-selling website”.

Additionally, the UK-based band Coldplay is all set to perform three shows back-to-back in India on January 18, 19, and 20, 2025. As part of its “Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025.” This has been highly awaited among the fans.
