BJP leaders strongly criticized the resolution that came up in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday for the restoration of Article 370, calling it “illegal” and “unconstitutional.”
Reacting strongly to the introduction of the resolution moved by the Congress-led INDI alliance, BJP leader and former union minister Smriti Irani said, “This resolution goes against the Indian Constitution. And the directions of the Supreme Court of India.” She asked if the alliance was supporting terrorism and standing against the rights of Dalits, tribals, women, and children.
She tore into the Gandhi family of Congress, demanding to know whether they were for terrorism. Or against the development of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, she sought to know if they stood against the Constitution of India.
Rajinder Singh Raina, a BJP leader in Jammu and Kashmir, re-echoed it. He termed the resolution illegal and accused the ruling alliance of “taking the side of terrorists and separatists”. Raina pressed home the point that the resolution on Article 370 ran counter to the Constitution.
Thus, the PDP’s resolution for restoration called for the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A. The resolution censured the abrogation of the Articles and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. For having bereaved the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. And statehood by violation of the foundational rights given by the Constitution of India.
Pandemonium broke out earlier in the day in the Assembly as opposition BJP members protested AIP MLA Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh holding a banner on Article 370. The BJP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, invaded the well of the House. And entered into a scuffle with Sheikh and other members of the treasury bench. The Speaker had to summon marshals to remove the members and made an appeal to the opposition to maintain order.
The scuffle had also marked a stormy day in the J&K Assembly over the sensitive issue of Article 370.
