Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the electorates to come out and vote with fervor and participate fully in the underway elections of Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He said that voting is the prime base for democracy.
In a tweet on X, PM Modi called upon the people of Maharashtra to participate in the Assembly Elections that are underway today. He referred to it as a “festival of democracy” and appealed for ample participation of both the youth and women voters. Voting in Maharashtra began at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 6 p.m. A total of 288 assembly constituencies across the state are going to polls.
4,136 candidates are contesting the elections in Maharashtra. Of them, 2,086 candidates have filed their nominations as independents. The main political parties in the fray are the BJP, contesting 149 seats. Shiv Sena, contesting 81 seats and the NCP fielding 59 candidates. There are 101 candidates in the Congress, Shiv Sena-UBT 95, and the NCP under Sharad Pawar is contesting with 86 candidates. Other small parties like BSP are also in the fray. Maharashtra has around 9.7 crore registered voters, and the state hopes for a high turnout.
Voting also began simultaneously for the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, covering the remaining 38 seats. Polling began at 7 a.m. and covered important areas like Jamtara and Deoghar, where officials conducted mock polling earlier today.
PM Modi also congratulated the voters of Jharkhand and termed the second phase of the election as the “great festival of democracy.” He called upon the people to vote enthusiastically and create a new voting record. He especially congratulated the first-time voters, referring to their votes as the “strength of the state.”
In Jharkhand, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress alliance is engaged in a fight to retain power. While the BJP-led NDA is working to oust the Hemant Soren-led government.
It has covered 43 of the 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand on November 13, marking the first phase of voting. Prominent candidates such as former Chief Minister Champai Soren and Congress leader Ajoy Kumar, among others, will be seen in this election, which is going to be a stiff fight. Both sides are eager to secure important constituencies. Hence, this battle is quite vital in restoring the future of the state.
Overall, PM Modi’s message highlights the importance of voting in these crucial elections, urging all eligible voters to participate actively.
