After beating England at The Oval in their third Test match, six Sri Lankan players have achieved new career-high ratings in the latest ICC Men’s Test Rankings.
Sri Lanka won the recently concluded series against England for their first Test victory on foreign soil. An important win, led by captain Dhananjaya de Silva, middle-order batsman Kamindu Mendis, and opener Pathum Nissanka.
Dhananjaya de Silva was the top-scorer for Sri Lanka in the first innings, making an attractive 69. His knock has returned a reward of three slots to reach a career-best 13th position in the list for Test batsmen. De Silva now is the leading Sri Lankan on this list.
Similarly, Kamindu Mendis and Pathum Nissanka also reached career-high rankings. Mendis moved up six places and was in 19th position after his half-century against England. The latter, meanwhile, leaped an astonishing 42 spots to 39th after scoring 64 and an unbeaten 127.
Meanwhile, England’s Joe Root remained the No. 1 Test batter despite contributing only 13 and 12 in the match. However, he slipped from 922 to 899 points. This change narrowed the gap with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Australia’s Steve Smith.
In addition, England’s Harry Brook fell seven places to 12th after scoring just 19 and three against Sri Lanka.
On the positive side, stand-in captain Ollie Pope advanced seven places to joint 27th following his century in the first innings against Sri Lanka. Furthermore, wicketkeeper Jamie Smith surged six spots to share the 30th position after his quick-fire half-century in the second innings.
And for Sri Lanka, there was more significant movement at the top of the Test bowler rankings. With Vishwa Fernando’s gain the most notable, up 13 places to equal 31st after his five-wicket haul against England. Lahiru Kumara went up ten spots to 32nd and Milan Rathnayake went up 26 positions to equal 84th. England’s Olly Stone also gained ground, up 13 places to 74th courtesy of his three wickets in the first innings.
In the T20I standings, Australia’s series sweep of Scotland saw plenty of movement. Captain Mitch Marsh gained two places and equaled the 17th position. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis leaped 28 places into a career-best 23rd position. Spinner Adam Zampa climbed one spot, shifting to seventh in the T20I bowlers’ chart. Scotland’s Bradley Currie had the most substantial gain – up 20 spots to 49th on the T20I bowlers’ list.
