The latest ICC Test Rankings are full of movements as Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant returned to the top 10 in a big jump after his best score. Pant jumped to the sixth position after his century during India’s win over Bangladesh in Chennai.
The other performer who did exceptionally well, Yashasvi Jaiswal, leaped to fifth with 751 rating points thanks to his half-century in the same Test. Rohit Sharma fell to 10th place after two low scores. Virat Kohli lost as many as five places to be 12th after a lackluster outing in Chennai.
Young opener Shubman Gill leaped five places to 14th position after his stroke-filled century, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, with a five-wicket haul in the Chennai Test, remains steady at second spot in the bowlers’ list with 854 points.
Ravichandran Ashwin leads the chart among bowlers on 871 points after a six-wicket haul and a counter-attacking century. Ravindra Jadeja too gained a place to go to sixth position. Both continue to be the top two all-rounders, with Ashwin at first and Jadeja at a close second.
The Test action in Galle also reshaped the bowling rankings. Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya went up five places to eighth after an excellent nine-wicket performance against New Zealand, making him the highest-ranked Sri Lankan across all formats.
Other highlights include Kamindu Mendis, who gained eight places to reach a career-best 16th position among batters, and Dhananjaya de Silva, who jumped nine places to a career-best 18th position among all-rounders. These changes indicate the competitive nature of international cricket when players in the rankings jostle for the top spots.
Pant, Jaiswal, Gill make notable moves; Ashwin, Jadeja, Bumrah also dominate the charts.
