Mott Joins Sixers on Three-Year Deal

Matthew Mott has penned a three-year contract with the Sydney Sixers as he replaces Cameron White, who joined Melbourne Renegades.

The Sixers have recruited Mott as an assistant coach. He recently worked with the England men’s white-ball team. An assistant with the New South Wales men’s team in 2007, he started his full-time coaching career. And had considerable success over eight years with the Australia Women’s team.

“I am delighted to re-join the Sydney Sixers,” Mott said, according to ESPNcricinfo. “Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it’s a place that holds so many incredible memories and is comfortably familiar, which I am looking forward to.”

Mott will join the Sixers to work under Greg Shipperd in the BBL. “The opportunity to be an assistant to Greg Shipperd – who I have a great deal of respect for – really excited me,” he said.

Mott’s coaching spell over England also involved the triumph of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. His tenure was over as England faced a semi-final exit earlier this year following an abysmal performance that they showcased in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

As Mott returns to New South Wales, he will reunite with Rachael Haynes, a key player in the Australia team he once led to great success. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have Motty committed for the next three years with the club,” said Haynes, the Sixers’ general manager.

“When an opportunity presents itself to bring a coach of the caliber of Motty into your ranks. It is a no-brainer,” she said. “We know what a fantastic resource he will be for our playing group.” Haynes underlined the strong coaching CV of Mott and how he is behind building and maintaining a winning culture.

“Our club is in safe hands under the leadership of Greg Shipperd, and Charlotte Edwards in our women’s program,” she added. “We’re delighted to add Motty’s experience to that group, taking us forward.”

In the off-season, the Sixers made several key moves. They signed Mott and retained James Vince despite the Renegades’ attempts to acquire him. They also selected Yorkshire leg-spinner Jafer Chohan as their final pick. Additionally, they secured West Indies leg-spinner Akeal Hosein before the draft.

With such changes, the Sixers are sure to create a ripple in this season’s Big Bash League.
