BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla trained his guns at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday over the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, accusing her of manipulating evidence and not doing enough.
Poonawalla said, “Mamata Banerjee’s crocodile tears count for nothing because her action speaks only of ruthlessness. Why has her government given Sandeep Ghosh a special duty posting rather than take action against him?” He pointed out that authorities reinstated Ghosh within hours. And questioned why he received a special posting when the matter should have been resolved.
He even did not spare the Bengal government’s lawyer, Kapil Sibal, for laughing in court. Considering what was happening did not warrant laughter in court. Such attitude, said Poonawalla, reflects the “nirmammata” of Mamata Banerjee’s administration.
He had cited an instance of how the Supreme Court had pulled up the Mamata Banerjee government. For its delay in filing an FIR, calling the discrepancies unparalleled in the past 30 years. According to him, the TMC government was more concerned about concealing the evidence rather than bringing justice to the victim.
“Instead of taking responsibility, Mamata Banerjee is trying to brazen it out“, Poonawalla said. He has also stated the Kannauj officials’ silence over the Kolkata incident and the Kolkata TMC’s on the Kannauj incident.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee asked the central government to implement central legislation. And set up fast-track courts for sensitive cases to expedite trials. This appeal came in the wake of national outrage following the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital incident.
BJP workers hit the streets protesting the rape and murder in front of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. The agitation, led by LoP Suvendu Adhikari and MLA Agnimitra Paul, was detained later by the Kolkata Police.
The CBI has applied to the Kolkata High Court for permission to conduct polygraph tests on RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s former principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, and four other doctors due to inconsistencies in their statements.
“We will use the result of the polygraph test to corroborate their statements and verify the evidence,” a senior CBI official said.
