Heavy rainfall has disrupted life in Tamil Nadu, leading to the cancellation of eight flights at Chennai Airport on Saturday. The canceled flights, operating to and from cities like Bengaluru, Andaman, New Delhi. And Muscat, were grounded due to bad weather.
Officials confirmed these cancellations, stating that heavy rain in Chennai had affected flight operations. This includes a Bengaluru-Chennai Akasa Airplane, scheduled to arrive at 7.05 am. And an Andaman-Chennai Akasa Airplane scheduled to reach at 1.00 pm. Other canceled flights include an IndiGo flight scheduled to land at 3:20 pm coming in from Delhi and an Oman Air flight coming in from Muscat.
Departing flights from Chennai were also affected. The Akasa Air flight to Andaman scheduled at 7:45 am, the Akasa Air flight to Bengaluru scheduled at 1:40 pm, the Oman Air flight to Muscat at 8:40 am, and the IndiGo flight to Delhi scheduled in the evening were all canceled.
While these flights were canceled, other flights continued their services. As there is a possibility of further cancellations, Chennai Airport has informed passengers to confirm the exact time of departure with their airlines and schedule travel accordingly.
Heavy rain has disrupted parts of Chennai, with most areas in the city facing waterlogging and jamming of traffic. Chief Minister MK Stalin held a review meeting with top officials over the situation to issue whatever instructions were necessary. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam had another meeting with the officials concerned for coordinating the arrangements regarding handling the rain.
To avoid damage to their cars, the residents in and around Velachery parked them on the Velachery flyover as a precautionary measure.Authorities have issued a warning to fishermen, advising them to avoid launching into the sea.
The Chief Minister has ordered IT employees to work from home between October 15 and 18. To ensure office work does not get disrupted.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the day, the India Meteorological Department has forecast. The weather department issued an orange alert for Chennai on October 15.
The IMD has also issued a red alert for October 16 as a low-pressure area. Over the southern Bay of Bengal is expected to move towards northern Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry in the next 48 hours.
The rain would continue to batter parts of Tamil Nadu for the next three to four days. Due to moderate rainfall in several regions.
