Heavy rain caused massive waterlogging in different parts of Delhi on Wednesday morning. The showers began early in the morning and brought with them thunderstorms and flashes of lightning to the capital city.
Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road badly waterlogged. Vehicles slowly and with great difficulty made their way through the flooded roads. As a result, there was traffic congestion that made the commute difficult. Waterlogged roads stalled the pace of cars and other vehicles.
In addition to Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, heavy waterlogging also affected Delhi Gate. There were cars and motorbikes spotted wading through the flooded roads. The situation created major traffic snarls.
The Regional Meteorological Centre of New Delhi has issued a yellow alert for the national capital. This yellow alert means that there will be more rain with possible severe weather conditions on the card today.
A traffic advisory was issued by the Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday given heavy rainfall. Commuters travelling to Crown Plaza on Road No 13. Heavy traffic congestion may arise at Okhla Underpass due to waterlogging, noted the advisory.
It thus shared an advisory on X where it recommended drivers to plan their journey given the strong gales. Specifically, it noted that waterlogging severely disrupted traffic on the carriageway from Road No. 13 to Crown Plaza.
Another advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police reported congestion on Rohtak Road due to waterlogging and potholes. It is inconveniencing motorists traveling from Nangloi towards Tikri Border and vice-versa. Heavy vehicles, including buses, faced problems crossing this road.
The advisory asked commuters to avoid Mundka and use alternative routes to avoid the congestion points.
Congestion also occurred on Mathura Road. The carriageway going from Badarpur towards Sarita Vihar was disrupted due to a fallen tree near the Mohan Estate Metro Station. This, too, added to the woes of traffic in the city.
This morning’s heavy rain followed light rain that fell on several areas of Delhi on Tuesday, coinciding with Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. And this prelude to the heavy rain today just added to the traffic and waterlogging problems.
Heavy rain and waterlogging have severely impacted large parts of Delhi, particularly affecting road traffic. Commuters should stay updated on traffic conditions and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
