As Jharkhand edges towards assembly elections, the political temperature is heating up. Union Minister and BJP in-charge for Jharkhand, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has targeted Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s government for patronizing the infiltrators.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared that BJP would go for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) when voted to power in the state.
Chouhan today said that the BJP is committed to saving “Roti, Mati aur Beti”. The roughly translated version is food, land, and women.
“This election is not only about choosing a new Chief Minister or gaining power, but it is about saving Jharkhand”, he said.
The demographic profile of the state was changing because of increased numbers of infiltrators from Bangladesh, Chouhan said. He pointed out that the tribal population has been reduced from over 44% to a mere 28%. In the Santhal region due to the influx of infiltrators.
Chouhan further attacked the Soren government, accusing it of favoring infiltrators for vote bank politics. “The Hemant Soren government is favoring the infiltrators for vote bank politics. We will implement NRC in Jharkhand, which would register local residents and identify intruders with the aim of removing them,” he said.
The NRC is a list of legal residents that the BJP proposes to introduce in Jharkhand. With the aim of protecting local populations from illegal infiltration. This has just become a touchstone issue as the state gears up for elections.
