1.5 Lakh Toilets to Ensure Clean Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj

To make Mahakumbh 2025 clean and hygienic, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to construct over 1.5 lakh toilets and urinals in the entire Mahakumbh area in Prayagraj. This comes as a part of the state’s proposal to make the event a “Swachh Kumbh”, an official press statement said on Friday.

Accordingly, the Prayagraj Mela Authority has fixed the installation completion date as December 15. All bidders have been finalized and LOAs issued for timely execution. Akanksha Rana, Special Executive Officer, Kumbh Mela confirmed, “The sanitation infrastructure will be fully operational. With jet spray cleaning systems and a full cesspool operation plan, by the stipulated date. This will involve the inclusion of septic tanks and soak pits for managing waste.”

Rana also said they would use QR codes to closely monitor the cleanliness and safety of the devotees. The authorities have roped in 55 vendors for the mega installation to ensure that the vendors provide enough community toilets for the millions of visitors expected at Mahakumbh. The sprawling network of toilets aims to reduce open-air sanitation to a minimum. And ensure a much better experience for the devout.

According to Rana, the arrangement would cope with the large masses of people expected on essential days. Like Mauni Amavasya, when 4 to 5 crore people are expected to bathe at the holy Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. In the meantime, as part of the plan, several types of toilets to meet demand were in place, including:

49,000 Kannath toilets with soak pits managed by 9 vendors.
FRP toilets with septic tanks, operationalized by 10 vendors. Eight vendors handle FRP toilets with soak pits. Ch09-prefabricated steel-based community toilets with septics: 9,000 and soak pits: 23,000. 350 mobile toilets assigned to 3 vendors. Three vendors also arranged 15,000 cemented toilets and 500 VIP. FRP-based urinal units: 20,000 numbers installed by 5 vendors.

The whole system will also provide service for toilets independently from cleaning services round the clock. Ensuring proper hygiene during the event. The elaborate arrangements assure convenience and safety for the devotees. Reducing the problems of sanitation to a minimum in such a huge congregation.

Additionally, this initiative upholds the pledge of the state government for a clean. Well-organized Mahakumbh where millions of devotees can participate in the sacred rituals with comfort and peace of mind.
