The Jammu-Kashmir (J&K) State Election Commission has suspended 23 government officials. And seized Rs 130 crore due to violations of the Model Code of Conduct during the Jammu-Kashmir assembly polls.
The state (J&K) election commission said 20 employees faced transfers from their current offices to different tehsils and districts. Complaints against these officials showed they acted in favor of a political party. The Commission said it had dismissed six contractual and ad hoc employees for MCC guidelines violation.
Different enforcement agencies made seizures during the election period, totaling Rs 130 crore. The Police Department led the way by seizing Rs 107.50 crore, followed by the Central Goods and Services Tax Department with Rs 9.88 crore and the State Goods and Services Tax Department with Rs 8.03 crore. The Narcotics Control Bureau seized Rs 2.06 crore, the Income Tax Department seized Rs 87 lakh, and the State Excise Department seized Rs 50 lakh.
PK Pole, CEO of J&K, reported that the election office granted permissions for about 7,088 events to various political parties and candidates. They issued permissions for rallies, processions, opening party offices, and displaying banners, flags, and pamphlets. The office also provided vehicle permissions for star campaigners and party officials.
Pole further stated that investigators closed 600 of the 1,263 reported cases of MCC violations after taking action against them. However, 364 cases remain under investigation and will be resolved shortly. He mentioned that 115 notices were issued to candidates, political parties, and media houses for reported MCC violations.
Enforcement agencies registered 32 FIRs regarding the carrying of drugs, cash, and illegal liquor during the election. This wide-ranging action demonstrates the election commission’s and law enforcement’s commitment to a free and transparent electoral process.
Addressing the huge violations of MCC-from suspending the officials. To seizing large amounts of money a huge step taken by Jammu-Kashmir. The investigations and follow-up actions in these cases would work. Also as a good strong statement against misconduct in the respective system.
