Yamaha Motor introduced the world’s first Yamaha Automated Manual Transmission (Y-AMT) system. A significant innovation to improve the comfort, convenience, and safety of the rider. The new system consolidates functions of the clutch lever, shift pedal, and automated/manual transmission control onto a single handlebar lever for simplicity in riding operation.
The Y-AMT system was developed to give the rider wider choices and further enhance the pleasure of riding. As an official of Yamaha Motor describes, “Even experienced sports riders will be able to enjoy comfort. And ease beyond their imagination enabled by this system.” By better communicating between the rider and the machine. Yamaha aims to raise the level of fun in motorcycling with the added thrill of sports riding. The system is designed to make riding easier and more enjoyable. While its aim is also to raise safety on the road.
The major feature of the Y-AMT system, however, is that it allows the shifting of gears only with the use of a finger. Switching to and from A and M modes also is within easy reach using the same hand. This gives unparalleled ease with which the rider can pay much more attention to his surroundings and road safety rather than having to make complicated gear-shifting. It helps the system reduce fatigue among riders and makes riding more enjoyable. Whether it is a long-distance trip or through difficult traffic conditions.
Former racing rider Shinya Nakano shared his thoughts about the Y-AMT system, saying it was surprising to ride without the clutch lever and shift pedal at the beginning. After he tried it, however, it was so easy to control the bike with his right hand. He even mentioned that it would be pretty easy on tour. Especially when there are situations -which might happen in cities-like U-turns or traffic congestion -where clutch control can be tricky and tiring. Long-distance travel or even day-to-day travel is less fatiguing for the rider with the Y-AMT system.
Yamaha Motor carries a vision for motorcycling to be more convenient, comfortable. And enjoyable as the motorcycle industry steps into its new frontier of innovation. In line with this, Yamaha tapped leading companies in Japan to partner with the company for the development of the Y-AMT system. Testifying to Yamaha’s commitment to push the boundaries in the motorcycle world.
The group’s objective is to make motorcycling safer, more approachable. And enjoyable for all riders with this revolutionary technology while assuring an easy and fun ride.
