Basking in the success of his film Soorarai Pottru, actor Suriya spoke to the media about the insecure moments in an actor’s life and how he felt depressed during one such phase. He has spoken about the stress of being in the rat race in the ever-changing film industry while promoting his forthcoming film Kanguva.
Suriya said that even successful actors doubt their potential. “Every actor will go through that. You always want to be relevant,” he said. He highlighted the constant fight to keep up with audience connection. He added that every five years, a new generation comes up. “If I keep talking about ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ or ‘Ghajini,’ many in this generation wouldn’t have seen them,” he said. It is this challenge that fuels his aspirations for films that will strike a chord with today’s viewers.
Suriya also spoke about one of the most trying moments in his career, which was just before the release of his blockbuster movie “Soorarai Pottru” (released in Hindi as “Udaan”). This was the time when he felt really low about his passion for cinema. He conveyed that he was skeptical, saying, “I was hoping to change my image and fall in love with cinema again. I wanted to be happy in front of the camera.” Fortunately, he consulted his mentor, director Sudha, and discovered the script for “Udaan,” which revived his love for acting.
Regarding audience expectation, Suriya expressed his opinion that filmmakers have to create special experiences to attract viewers to the theatre. He said, “The audience won’t settle for a regular movie with the hero-villain story.” Rather, the movies should be enjoyable and memorable enough so that people will be willingly leaving their homes.
Later, Suriya will appear in “Kanguva.” The film is directed by Siva and is produced on behalf of Studio Green. Locations in the film are situated 1,500 years back. In “Kanguva,” Suriya confronts Bobby Deol.
The production team has also estimated the budget of “Kanguva” to have crossed Rs 350 crore as they shoot the movie in seven countries and several locations in India. Fans are waiting to watch the release of the film in theatres on November 14th. The journey of Suriya is actually symbolic of an actor’s failure and success. While fighting hard to sustain in the fast-changing world of the film industry.
