The White House yesterday characterized the US-India relationship as among the most consequential relationships around the world during a press briefing. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quoted President Joe Biden as saying that the relationship between the United States and India had, therefore, been of essential value to both nations working in tandem on a number of the most major priorities.
Further, he said that on many of these parameters, the US and India are quite aligned to the objectives—both are part of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue also called QUAD. “The President views our relationship with India as one of the most consequential in the world. We work closely on vital priorities such as QUAD and our joint initiatives on emerging technologies,” Jean-Pierre said.
She went on to bring to the fore that the US was keen to further strengthen this “critically important partnership” in such a way as to serve both countries and advance a more secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. “We look forward to expanding our partnership and advancing our shared goals for the benefit of the American people and the global community,” she added.
Quad aspires to an open, stable, and, above all, prosperous Indo-Pacific, which will also be inclusive and resilient. It was just the other day that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, External Affairs Minister of India S. Jaishankar, Foreign Minister of Japan Yoko Kamikawa, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Penny Wong attended the Quad Foreign Ministers in Tokyo on 29 July.
The heads of state recommitted to upholding and reinforcing the rule-based multilateral international order for securing global good. From the post-meeting communiqué, it has been realized that the grouping is going to bat for the promotion and implementation of a positive and practical agenda in terms of sustainable development, peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. It also reaffirmed its commitment to an open, free, and inclusive region, which respects the independence of all countries in their choices of cooperation and trade in the spirit of partnership, equality, and mutual respect.
Outcomes on future engagements concluded, “We look forward to India hosting the next Quad Leaders Summit later this year and to the United States hosting the next Quad Foreign Ministers meeting in 2025.”
