Uthappa Backs Rajat Patidar for RCB Captaincy in IPL 2025

Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has named Rajat Patidar as a potential captain for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2025. According to Uthappa, Patidar has been in great form over the last couple of seasons. And thus he might as well be pushed to lead the side.

With IPL 2025 closed, RCB is weighing its leadership options. The franchise has already decided against retaining Faf du Plessis as captain, thus paving the way for newer possibilities. While several names could replace him, with Jos Buttler, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer amongst the most talked-about names, Uthappa feels Patidar will be the perfect man to lead RCB ahead.

“I think that Rajat Patidar should be considered as the captain,” Uthappa continued, “Perhaps after two years, when it gets a bit stale under the same leadership. It will be a good enough time to make those changes. Patidar is one player who can take up this mantle and lead the team for three-five years.

RCB has made some big changes ahead of the new season. They decide to retain only three players, including Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and uncapped seamer Yash Dayal. Key players like Mohammed Siraj, Will Jacks, and Glenn Maxwell too shifted out of the camp. RCB camp retains a purse of Rs 83 crore going into the mega auction. And looks forward to building a strong squad capable of winning them their first IPL title.

The auction will also provide the franchise with an opportunity to exercise the Right to Match, RTM card option. Former India cricketer Saba Karim suggests that RCB might want to use the RTM to bring back Mohammad Siraj and Will Jacks. Bth of whom he thinks can bring essential skills to the squad.

“RCB could look to bring back Siraj because he has been brilliant for them,” Karim pointed out. “Having drafted in Yash Dayal, they need another really good quality bowler to supplement him. And Siraj would certainly fit the bill. Another player that went well for them last year was Will Jacks, who could add real depth with bat and ball.”

This Sunday and Monday, the IPL mega auction will take place in Jeddah. As franchises will bid for players to strengthen their teams in the IPL 2025. Since RCB will be building a competitive squad, all eyes will be on the captaincy choice that the franchise will make. And the players whom they go for in the auction.
