Three Indian Footballers Selected for Training

In an exciting turn of events, the United We Play (UWP) program selected three Indian footballers for a practice session at the legendary Old Trafford stadium in Manchester. This followed the fourth edition of UWP, in which more than 15,000 aspiring footballers participated across 18 cities.

The program, designed by Apollo Tyres in association with Manchester United, concluded with a grand finale in Chandigarh, where Gary Neville, a legend and former Manchester United football star, attended the event to encourage youngsters and give away the awards.

The grand finale was what selected five standout players for this lifetime opportunity to visit Old Trafford. Among these were three Indian footballers: PC Lalchhuanawma from Mizoram, Shreejal Kisku from Bhubaneswar, and Mohd Ayan from Lucknow. They will be participating in a series of activities comprising a matchday experience, a training session with Manchester United Soccer School coaches, and meet-and-greet sessions with football legends.

UWP is a grassroots, pan-Indian football talent development initiative designed to bring grassroots footballers together on a single platform to develop their football skills. It inspires young footballers to pursue their passion and showcase their skills with confidence. Additionally, it introduces global training methodologies in football.

Gary Neville, the legendary right-back, praised the talent. And enthusiasm displayed by young Indian footballers, expressing his pleasure in witnessing their dedication. Neville, now 37, who played an illustrious career, with eight English Premier League titles. And two UEFA Champions League titles, said that it is also necessary to invest in youth development.

“I am glad to see the commitment and love for football amongst young children in India,” Neville said. “Many congratulations to the young players whose hard work has paid off today. I am sure the experience at Old Trafford will be a memory of a lifetime.”

Since its establishment, the UWP program has grown phenomenally. The fourth edition reached a record of 15,000 young footballers. More than 100 coaches were part of virtual training sessions by Manchester United Soccer Schools. This year, it also expanded into international cities such as Kathmandu, Bangkok, Dhaka, and Dubai.

Rajesh Dahiya, Vice President, Commercial, India and SAARC, Apollo Tyres, said, “Feels proud on the growth of UWP. “This finale was extra special since Gary Neville was present,” he said. “With this initiative, we are committed to nurturing young talent and helping them express themselves through football.”
