Škoda Auto India today announced that it will officially launch its long-awaited SUV, the Kylaq, in a global premiere in Mumbai on November 6, 2024. It aims to drive growth in the Indian market with the new model, targeting 100,000 sales annually by 2026.
Škoda will manufacture the Kylaq at its Chakan plant in Maharashtra. Advancing the company’s sustainable manufacturing plan.The plant already generates 30 percent of its power from solar energy, and Skoda wants to raise this to 75 percent by 2026.
Bookings of the Kylaq will start from December 2, 2024. The SUV, which starts at Rs 7,89,000, will be a gateway into Skoda’s range in India. Skoda has also opened interest registrations for customers from today.
The Kylaq features a new design with neat lines and the novel Modern Solid design language. It also features a glossy black grille with 3D ribs and a re-interpretation of Skoda’s classic “four eyes” headlight design. In addition, the Kylaq sports a brand-new Skoda wordmark at the rear and a bold aluminum-optic front lower spoiler.
Inside, the Kylaq is loaded with several segment-first features. These include six-way electric seats with ventilation for both the driver and front passenger. The boot space is also best in class, opening up 446 liters which goes up to 1,256 liters with the rear seats folded. Other features include an Auto Climatronic system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Leatherette seats, and an electric sunroof for select variants. It also gets cruise control, paddle shifters, and wireless charging.
People across the nation gave the name “Kylaq” through a national campaign. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal and also refers to Mount Kailash. Adding an Indian essence to the model.
Skoda Auto’s Chief Executive Officer, Klaus Zellmer, stated that Skoda designed the Kylaq as its first sub-4-meter SUV, specifically for India. India is the strategic market for Skoda as half of the new car sales come in SUVs. The Kylaq would have a newer set of customers for the brand, offering premium European technology at an affordable price.
The Kylaq, with its modern features and design, can help Skoda strengthen its presence within the buoyant SUV market in India.
