Renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra will make his debut as a film producer with Saali Mohabbat. The film has been selected for screening at the 2024 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. This marks Malhotra’s first step into the film industry. The film is also actress Tisca Chopra’s maiden directorial venture.
Slated to be screened at IFFI on 22nd November, Salii Mohabbat is also a suspense drama from the stable of Jio Studios and Stage 5 Production. The film boasts a potent cast comprising Radhika Apte, Divyenndu, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra, Sharat Saxena, and Anurag Kashyap.
The story also follows a housewife who becomes entangled in infidelity, deception, and murder, exploring dark and complex themes. Tisca Chopra exclaimed about the premiere: “This is a story close to my heart.” She thanked Manish Malhotra and Jio Studios for believing in her dream and standing by her in this journey of being a director. “I hope the audience connects with its raw emotion and suspense,” she said. “It was special for me to present Saali Mohabbat at the IFFI, which celebrates different voices in films,” she added.
Jyoti Deshpande, President, of the media and content business, Reliance Industries, also called the project a natural transition by Malhotra. “With Saali Mohabbat, Manish extends his legacy of creativity, now crafting stories that captivate just as his designs have.”
“The moment I read the script, I knew I had to make Saali Mohabbat as it was an intense and thrilling narrative,” said Malhotra, who is a producer and collaborator on the film. He added, “At Stage5 Production, we aim to create cinematic experiences that are compelling and thought-provoking.” He also said, “Tisca Chopra’s commitment to this story made it even more compelling.”
Additionally, Malhotra expressed gratitude to Jio Studios and Jyoti Deshpande for their unwavering support. And said he felt privileged to present his film at IFFI.
IFFI 2024 will take place from November 20 to 28 in Goa. Saali Mohabbat also forms one of the major attractions in the festival. With its share of suspense and emotional appeal for the audience.
