Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan spoke at the NDTV World Summit 2024 on the global phenomenon of the Indian cinema and fashion. “This is exciting since films, songs, and dances from India are being noticed globally,” she said.
Kareena gave her take on the fast-growing popularity of Indian films. She says, “Indian films and fashion are having a very big moment. The whole world is talking about Indian films. ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is going to the Oscars. People are watching films in our language, which is great because we are staying true to our culture and heritage.”
She also elaborated, “People love our songs and dances. They love the colors and the energy. That’s why they get hooked on it. Even today, for ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.’, they talk about that lehenga because they connect to the Indian culture through song and dance. I’m glad people are watching more content from India now.“
Kareena also spoke about the rise of the Indian fashion industry. She said, “It is a great moment to be in fashion because finally, people are recognizing the craftsmanship.” She explained that the world is now appreciating Indian heritage and craftsmanship.
On the professional front, Kareena has also been hitting headlines since the recent release of The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta, released in theatres on September 13. In the mystery drama, Kareena essays the character Sergeant Jasmeet ‘Jass’ Bhamra. She is working on the case of a missing boy named Ishpreet, approximately the age of her late son Ekam, whom Jass lost. Other main characters are Ash Tandon, Ranveer Brar, and Keith Allen.
Kareena will star in the actioner Singham Again, directed by Rohit Shetty. The film, set for release in November, also features Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Ranveer Singh.
