Apple has launched the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series in its latest event, “It’s Glowtime.” The event held on September 9, 2024, indeed has been a showstopper as far as innovation and advancement of technology go. In all, Apple has introduced four new models: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Apple has finally announced the iPhone 16 series, bringing major updates in every aspect. Starting pre-orders, iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, and Pro variants are slated to go on sale via Flipkart, Amazon. And the Apple Store among other e-commerce sites.
- Price and Availability
US prices for the iPhone 16 start at $799 – roughly Rs 67,000 . While the 16 Plus will sell for $899, or about Rs 75,500. The starting price of the 16 Pro is $999, or roughly Rs 83,870. Finally, the starting price of the 16 Pro Max is $1199 – roughly Rs 1 lakh – for its 256GB variant.
Prices are a trifle higher in India: iPhone 16 at Rs 79,900, 16 Plus at Rs 89,900, 16 Pro at Rs 1,19,900. And the top-of-the-line model, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, at Rs 1,44,900.
- Design and Display
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are slim and sleek, featuring aerospace-grade aluminum with new color-infused back glass in ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black. 16 features a 6.1-inch display, while the bigger sibling, 16 Plus, boasts a larger 6.7-inch display. Both models have a peak brightness of 2000 nits and go as low as 1 nit in dark settings for dimming.
New gold color, thinner borders, and always-on 120Hz ProMotion displays adorn the latest iPhone 16 Pro models. The screen size is 6.3″ on the iPhone 16 Pro, along with the industry-leading 6.9″ for the Pro Max. Colors include Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium.
- Performance and Chipset
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are powered by the company’s latest A18 chip on the second generation of the 3nm process. It features a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores. And 4 efficiency cores that provide up to 30 percent faster performance compared to A16 Bionic. For more, the A18 Chip offers 17 percent more system memory bandwidth.
The Pro and Pro Max are powered by the A18 Pro chipset. Likewise fabricated on a 3nm process but tuned for professional-grade use. This chip boasts a 6-core GPU, which it says executes instructions 20% faster than its predecessor. The A17 Pro while granting a 15% improvement in performance with 20% less power consumption. This chip also integrates next-gen machine learning accelerators and allows faster USB 3 speeds and ProRes video recording.
- Camera Improvements
The new main camera in the iPhone 16 now boasts an update: a 48MP camera capable of merging a 48MP. And a 12MP photo for better clarity at 24MP. A 2x telephoto zoom and fast f/1.6 aperture are also added to get the best shots during low light. The new 12MP ultra-wide camera has a bigger aperture. And pixels that let in 2.6x more light to capture your shots sharper than ever.
The advanced triple-camera system in the Pro models combines multiple cameras. They boast a 48MP fusion camera with a second-gen quad-pixel sensor that allows for 0 shutter lag in 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos. Cameras of such prowess support 4K120 video capture. Another new feature introduced is autofocus on the 48MP ultra-wide camera. An included 12MP telephoto lens offers a 5x zoom capability.
- Additional Features
Of course, it’s in the standard iPhone 16 models that introduce the Action Button for quickly accessing things. Such as recording voice memos, identifying songs, or translating phrases. The new camera control feature includes a flush button with sapphire glass to provide a tactile way of working the camera with advanced touch gestures for capturing photos and videos.
Apple Intelligence, available on both the 16 and Pro series, is an AI-powered technology that makes users more productive. By summarizing their emails, filtering notifications, and enabling detailed photo searches. For more intuitive assistance siri has been updated. And so has Visual Intelligence, which lets users point the camera at an object or event and get its information.
Piecing these together, the 16 series opens up to being an all-inclusive platform for general usage and professional content creation.
