India Hosts 13th UNGGIM Asia-Pacific Meeting on Geospatial Data

India is hosting the 13th Plenary Meeting of UNGGIM for the Asia-Pacific region at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi starting on November 26. The Survey of India-organized conclave will be participated by experts/delegates from around the world. Discussing and deliberating on ideas related to geospatial data for sustainable development.

In turn, this forum will serve as a means for the member states to share their experience. And skills related to geospatial information. This will be instrumental in getting the countries together with the view of improving relations through cooperation on various aspects of managing geospatial data. This would also contribute to new partnerships. And ideas on the best way to put geospatial data into work with the aim of fostering sustainable development.

Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India, said experts from 30 countries would attend the event, including 91 delegates. Over 120 experts from India will also participate in deliberations on a wide range of issues relating to the geospatial sector. The meeting will focus on how geospatial data can support the blossoming digital economy and contribute to sustainable development.

The theme for the 13th UNGGIM Asia-Pacific Plenary Meeting would be “Geo-enabling the Data Economy for Sustainable Development.” Its aim, to be sure, was to bring out the vital role that geospatial data, processes. And systems can play in the digital data economy. Since this world is getting more digital every day. Comprehension of how to put geospatial information into work effectively becomes deeply important for a sustainable future.

The four-day conference features a full schedule of focused sessions and seminars. It shall be preceded by a regional seminar on “Cadastral & Land Management”. And one session on “Integration of Geospatial & Statistical Information” on the first day. The second day shall witness coverage of the regional workshop “Sustainable Operation of the GNSS-CORS Network.” Moreover, it shall also hold a seminar on “IGIF Implementation” to emphasize building and strengthening integrated geospatial information management systems.

This conference will also bring in greater cooperation and sharing of knowledge in the geospatial sector. Enabling the countries to use geospatial data in support of sustainable development. This indeed marks a big leap forward in harnessing technology to meet the challenges that confront our world. And simultaneously building a more sustainable future for one and all citizens of the planet.
