Coldplay Ticket Case: BookMyShow CEO Summoned Again

The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police has issued fresh summons to Ashish Hemrajani, chief executive officer. Of Big Tree Entertainment, which owns BookMyShow, and the company’s technical head. The authorities require them to appear for questioning on Monday regarding the alleged black marketing of tickets for the Coldplay concert.

This is the second summons for Hemrajani and the technical head. They had failed to appear before the police for interrogation on September 27. And have not bothered to get in touch with the latter over their absence so far.

Advocate Amit Vyas filed a complaint, prompting the inquiry. Vyas blamed BookMyShow for facilitating the black marketing of tickets for the much-anticipated Coldplay concert, scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

In response, BookMyShow issued a statement on Saturday to clear the air on their effort to ensure fair ticketing. According to the company, 13 million fans signed in on September 22. To book tickets for Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres” World Tour 2025 in India. The limits were fixed at four tickets per user across all shows, with clear booking guides and seamless communication.

BookMyShow explained to clear unauthorized ticket sales: “It came to our notice that unauthorized platforms listed tickets for Coldplay’s concert both before and after the official sale.” They made it clear that they have no association with unauthorized ticket-selling platforms like ViaGogo and Gigsberg.

While condemning the practice of black marketing, BookMyShow outlined that scalping tickets is against the law in India. Continuing further, they said, “We have filed a complaint with the police. And are working with them to support the investigation.” In addition, they warned consumers that tickets bought from unauthorized sources could be invalid or fake.

On September 18, Coldplay announced the “Music of the Sphere” World Tour and scheduled two shows in Mumbai. The demand was high, and hence they scheduled one more show on January 21. While the police investigation is going forward, parallel steps are being taken by the police. And BookMyShow to sort out this issue of ticket sales relating to the popular event.
