Sudan Charge d’affaires, Hassan Ali Osman Mahmoud has firmly denied allegations regarding an attack on the UAE Ambassador’s residence in Khartoum. He termed the allegations as fabricated.
Last month, the UAE stated that a Sudanese military aircraft bombed its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum. Abu Dhabi denounced the incident as a “heinous attack.”
Mahmoud said, “The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press statement on September 29 saying the Sudanese Army attacked the Emirati Ambassador’s residence. These accusations are fabricated. We deny that. We do not attack any diplomatic residence or embassy in Khartoum.”
He made it clear that Sudan is in dire need of support from India and the international community for humanitarian aid. Mahmoud said, “We want India and the global community to exert pressure on the Emirates. We also need humanitarian help.”
Immediately following the alleged attack, the tensions in Sudan went up. On October 2, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement regarding the situation, saying that it is following the security developments in the region. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The inviolability of diplomatic premises must be respected during conflicts. Reports of an attack on the UAE Ambassador’s residence in Khartoum are a serious concern.”
It, in turn, denied any involvement and accused its foe RSF of those attacks. The Sudan conflict has dragged on for over a year amidst great unrest. The military government has accused the UAE of previously backing the RSF.
The Sudanese military thus accused the UAE of arming the RSF. And providing other support that has badly raised the ante on this conflict, killing tens of thousands of people. This war has also caused a humanitarian crisis in the country.
In June, the Sudanese envoy to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idriss Al-Harith Mohamed accused Abu Dhabi of providing financial and military support for RSF and called it a reason for the main continuance of the conflict.
As the situation develops further, Sudan keeps denying accusations of the UAE. And has been trying to explain its position in the international arena.
