Jayme Lawson Joins ‘The Running Man’

Jayme Lawson has appeared in The Batman as Mayor Bella Real this 2022 and has now joined the film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Running Man. Adapted from King’s novel of the same name, Edgar Wright will direct this movie, which Paramount Pictures will produce. Lawson will take on the pivotal role of Sheila, the wife of Ben, played by Glen Powell.

In the film, Sheila cannot care for their ailing child in a post-apocalyptic future. This prompts Ben to send in an application to participate in the killer game show that lends the movie its title, The Running Man. The storyline of this movie occurs in the year 2025, within an American totalitarian-controlled regime. Their way of overcoming the problem of the population chafing under their rule is by using brutal game shows to distract the population from their misery.

It follows Powell’s character as he signs up for The Running Man. A savage game in which the contestants must try to escape from death at the hands of killer teams. The longer one survives, the more cash they make. The further along the competition goes, the more Powell’s character breaks the rules and begins to unravel the dark secrets of this game. Josh Brolin will star as the merciless producer of the show, while Katy O’Brian will play one of the contestants.

This movie also adapts Stephen King’s 1982 book, which he originally released in a limited print run under his Richard Bachman pen name. Consequently, the film brings the novel’s dark, dystopian themes to the screen. Known for Shaun of the Dead, amongst others his longtime writing partner Michael Bacall, co-wrote the screenplay. Principal photography begins in London early in 2025.

Alongside The Batman, Lawson is also accustomed to a starring role in The Woman King by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Her upcoming star vehicle will be in the horror film Sinners by Ryan Coogler and with Michael B. Jordan. Sinners is now lined up for a Warner Bros release on March 7, 2025.

The Running Man also stars Karl Glusman, Daniel Ezra, and Lee Pace. In addition, the film has a stellar ensemble cast and a really action-packed storyline. It tries to bring alive the vision of Stephen King about dystopia in a manner never seen before.
