Eva Mendes has stated that the only manner in which she could see herself making a comeback to acting is if she were to shoot with her husband, Ryan Gosling. This couple has previously worked together on projects like Drunk History Christmas in 2011. And The Place Beyond the Pines in 2012.
Speaking to Deadline, Mendes revealed why she stepped away from the acting world: “I was never in love with acting. I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress. I had my moments when I worked with really great people.”
Along with a career that has given the world hit films like Training Day in 2001, Hitch in 2005, and The Other Guys in 2010. Mendes seemed to consciously step away from the spotlight in 2014. Her focus then became other aspects of her life, such as her two children with Gosling.
Speaking of collaborations past, Mendes spoke of Gosling with warmth. She said, “He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before.”
Mendes considered their screen chemistry special, adding, “That’s the one thing I would love to do,” referring, of course, to working together again.“
Since retiring from acting, Mendes opened a cleaning business, and modeled for various campaigns. And put out a children’s book called Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries. It’s a children’s book about anxiety that caters to little kids. And helps them get through stressors they may be feeling.
The new projects are delighting Mendes. But she says she will never lose that special place in her heart especially if it involves her husband. For years, fans have hoped to hear news of the possibility of a reunion on screen. And the comments by Mendes have given them at least a glimmer of hope that this may indeed happen in the future.
That she might get back into acting again, with Gosling-is what fans are most hoping to see as Mendes continues to balance motherhood with her other projects. Indeed, her priorities have shifted, but one of the big things that remains huge in her life is her marriage.
