YouTube is testing a new AI-powered music remix feature called ‘Dream Track’. It would let the creators “restyle” the licensed songs for their YouTube Shorts. In the initial phase, that is, in the trial phase of the facility, it has been made available for a small group of invited creators only.
With the ‘Dream Track’ feature, users can change several song attributes, like mood, genre, and tempo, with the help of AI: just choose a song, describe how you want that song changed, and voilà; AI will generate a 30-second remix. Creators can use the remix track in Shorts, YouTube’s popular video format.
The remixes will credit the original song, with a note stating that AI modified the track. YouTube ensures that only artists who agree to have their voices used for AI remixes are included. Some of the artists taking part in this experiment include Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend. Youtube is offering a great amount of flexibility to the users.
Although the feature is still experimental, the offering is part of YouTube’s broader push to build out more creative features for creators. YouTube wants users to have even more control over how they interact with music. With AI, creators are able to build custom soundtracks that meet their unique vision for their Shorts.
YouTube is also working with major music labels to secure permissions for using songs in AI-powered projects, meaning it could see a wider rollout later. It hasn’t disclosed the company, nor specific songs that are available to remix or particular music labels.
In conclusion, the ‘Dream Track’ can hint at how AI will affect changes in the creation of music on YouTube. In other words, makers can combine original tracks with new, AI-created twists to unlock newer user-generated content possibilities.
