Actress Sharvari recently talked about her journey from assistant director to film debutant and now preparing for Yash Raj Films’ spy thriller Alpha. She also spoke on one topical question of male domination in cinema.
Sharvari began her career behind the camera as an assistant director. “I started with Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. Then I worked on Bajirao Mastani and assisted on Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety,” she said. “My first exposure to films happened as an assistant director, and all my learning happened behind the camera, which shaped my career.”
Sharvari made her acting debut with the 2021 crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli 2, a production by Yash Raj Films, alongside Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She gives credit to Aditya Chopra for being a guiding mentor in her career. “Aditya Chopra has always been my mentor. His advice is something I always look forward to, especially when I’m in a fix,” Sharvari said.
When asked about male dominance in the industry, Sharvari said it is not related to gender. “It’s not about male or female. It’s about the requirements of the film, and how the characters are written. What matters is what the script demands,” said the 25-year-old actress. “When you fulfill that, the audience connects.”
Sharvari gets excited about talking about her next film Alpha, co-starring Alia Bhatt. “It is a first-of-its-kind film. The spy universe of Yash Raj, has two women performing some incredible action pieces. It’s something exciting,” she added.
Asked about how audience reactions influence her choices, Sharvari said, “It’s storytelling that drives me. For me when a script speaks to me, that’s what matters. If I am excited about a project, I look forward to being a part of it for several months,” she explained.
It has been raining accolades on Sharvari ever since her lead role in the Prime Video series The Forgotten Army . The talented young actress also wowed audiences in Munjya and Maharaj. She also starred alongside John Abraham in Vedaa.
Helmed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha indeed is a big leap for Yash Raj Films, generally known to tread the path of male-centric action tales. The title reveal video gave a gist of what could be an exciting action-packed tale, promising “Alpha” as the top force in the city. Alia Bhatt’s involvement has only raised anticipation for the project.
