Rishabh Pant Overtakes Kohli in ICC Test Rankings

Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has gained a spot ahead of Indian veteran batter Virat Kohli in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings courtesy of a strong comeback to the red-ball cricket.

A lot of changes happened in the rankings after an exciting series of matches last week. In the third Test since his comeback from the serious car accident, Rishabh Pant scored 20 and 99 runs in the ongoing opening Test against New Zealand. His effort brought him up three positions to sixth. It was good enough to push Kohli down to eighth with Toss Scoble.

At the top of the charts, England’s Joe Root retains his top position. He leads the chart, with Yashasvi Jaiswal in fourth, Rishabh Pant in sixth, and Kohli in eighth, as India’s representatives in this competitive category’s top ten.

Ben Duckett of England, on the other hand, also gained. He went up three places to share the 11th place after his 114-run effort against Pakistan.

There was also a significant rise for Pakistan’s Salman Agha, who went up eight places to a career-best 14th. Scoring 31 and 63 in the same match made him the highest-rated Test batter from Pakistan. He went past Babar Azam, who is 19th, Mohammad Rizwan, who is 21st, and Saud Shakeel, who is 27th.

New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra leaped 36 places to 18th and Devon Conway moved up 12 places to 36th place in the Test batter rankings.

Among bowlers, New Zealand’s Matt Henry reached a career-best ranking of ninth after picking up eight wickets in the win against India. Will O’Rourke moved up two places to 39th.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s spinner Noman Ali leaped 17 places and reached after claiming 11 wickets in a losing cause against England. His colleague Sajid Khan jumped 22 places to 50th after being adjudged Player of the Match.

In limited-overs cricket, Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka jumped places to the eighth position in the T20I batting list. While Kusal Mendis reached the 12th position. Maheesh Theekshana jumped to third place in the T20I bowling category. And Wanindu Hasaranga gained positions in both T20I and ODI rankings.
