The husband of actress Moon Moon Sen and father of actresses Raima and Riya Sen, Bharat Dev Varma, breathed his last at his residence in Kolkata on Tuesday. The news has sent the family and the fans into mourning.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee felt sad over the loss. And reminisced that Bharat Dev Varma was a man with a gentle and affectionate disposition. In a post on X, she said, “Sad at the demise of Bharat Dev Varma, husband of filmstar Moon Moon Sen and himself a great well-wisher of mine. He was truly loving and affectionate to me, and I shall always treasure his memories.” Mamata also said that Bharat treated her like a family member and his death was a big loss for her.
After hearing the news, Mamata Banerjee went to the residence of the family at Kolkata’s Ballygunge and paid her respect. She also met their daughter Riya Sen, who was at home. Moon Moon and Raima Sen, who were in Delhi, were on their way back to Kolkata.
Talking to media persons, Mamata Banerjee said that Bharat Dev Varma had been keeping fine for the last couple of days. “Two nights ago, they had a party. He was not ill, as far as I know. It appears strokes and heart attacks occur early morning in winter.”
Mamata also confirmed that the local councilors and police were ensuring that the necessary support was accorded to the family. Including providing a green corridor for bringing Moon Moon Sen and Raima back to Kolkata. “I have lost a well-wisher, a family member,” she said, fighting back tears at the loss.
The renowned personality married Moon Moon Sen back in the year 1976. Bharat Dev Varma is survived by his wife and also two daughters, Raima and Riya, who have both left their mark on the Indian film world.
The family is currently in mourning following the sudden demise of a loving husband and father. Fans and friends immediately got online to pay tribute to Bharat Dev Varma. Remembering him as a man full of warmth and generosity.
