Michael Keaton on ‘Batgirl’ Cancellation: ‘Didn’t Care’

Now that it’s been established, Michael Keaton is no longer toeing the line about giving the recent quitting of the film ‘Batgirl’, history, in which he was set to headline as Bruce Wayne. Recently, in a conversation with Deadline, Keaton did note the same.

“I didn’t care one way or another,” he told Deadline. “Big, fun, nice check.”

But then Keaton expressed pity for the movie’s directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. “I like those boys. They’re nice guys. I pull for them,” Keaton said. “I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I’m good.”

THE GOTHAM KNIGHT Hero Keaton first stepped into the cape in 1989 to play the role in Tim Burton’s “Batman,” then most recently reprising the role in 2023’s “The Flash.” The actor revealed that Burton revolutionized the whole concept of making superhero movies. “He changed everything,” Keaton said. “I can’t necessarily say this, but there’s a strong possibility there is no Marvel Universe, there is no DC Universe, without Tim Burton. He was doubted and questioned.”

After Warner Bros. confirmed earlier this month that Batgirl would no longer be moving forward in 2022, star Leslie Grace has now issued a heartfelt message to her fans on Instagram. So, dearest family: “Off the back of the recent news about our movie Batgirl, I’m just so proud of the love, hard work, and intention put into this film over seven months in Scotland by our amazing cast and tireless crew. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan: THANK YOU for the love and belief—now watch out for the cape, as I get to fulfill, as Babs said best, ‘my damn hero!’ Batgirl for life,” she wrote.
