Technology giant Meta hosted its ‘Build with AI Summit’ in Bengaluru, where India’s robust developer ecosystem and burgeoning talent pool were on full display. This marks a whole new chapter for AI-fueled digital transformation in the country.
The summit brought to light the potential for India to become a major leader in AI adoption. Open-source models are central in that evolution, whereby developers, educational institutions, government agencies, and businesses will be able to develop cost-effective and scalable solutions to local challenges.
Meta organized the AI Hackathon to empower developers. There were over 1,500 registrations, with more than 350 proposals and over 90 teams present. The winners included CurePharmaAI, CivicFix, and evAIssment. The summit gave a special mention to SheBuilds, an all-women team. Participants also submitted proposals for Llama Impact Grants, which offer funding of up to $100K for regional projects and $500K for global projects.
Yann LeCun, Meta’s VP and Chief AI Scientist, called open-source the base of AI development: “Meta’s vision for AI leverages global creativity. We are working to build systems that allow individuals to make changes in society.” He believes India’s wealth of talented people and its tech ecosystem will play a major role in shaping the future of AI.
Sandhya Devanathan, the Vice President and Head of Meta India, too, took that line. She said, “India can lead in AI, just as it did with mobile internet. AI breakthroughs allow us to tackle problems once seen as impossible. India’s readiness for open-source AI fuels this change.” Meta is thus pretty confident that growth in innovation. And digital transformation across various verticals will be driven by India.
It also works in collaboration with India AI and MeitY on ways to strengthen AI research. It also works in collaboration with NLSIU and IIT Bombay on projects that make use of AI to aid legal reforms. Meta’s WhatsApp Business Solution aims to make public services in Andhra Pradesh more efficient.
KissanAI also introduced Dhenu Llama 3, an AI model for farmers that is optimized for agriculture. Arivihan, an education platform, uses Llama models to offer personalized learning to over 100,000 students.
Further, Meta collaborates with top Indian enterprises like Infosys and PwC India for scaling open-source Artificial intelligence toward enterprise solutions. Infosys is furthering the adoption of Artificial intelligence across industries. And establishing a Meta Center of Excellence that focuses on fostering talent and industry-specific use cases.
