Maruti Suzuki India Limited has initiated the export of its hugely popular and ‘Made in India’ SUV, Fronx, to Japan, which is another series of a legacy of milestones for this overseas expansion strategy.
This will prove to be a landmark initiative that will help Maruti Suzuki make an entry into the Japanese SUV market, thus taping the campaign of ‘Make in India’ and showcasing India’s growing might in the global manufacturing platform. Launching the Fronx in Japan showcases an important event for the company about the growing influence of India in the global automobile industry.
The batch of over 1,600 Fronx SUVs is the first to leave Pipavav Port in Gujarat, India, for Japan. This consignment makes the Fronx the second car from Maruti Suzuki to find its way to Japan, after the Baleno in 2016. This autumn, Fronx will be formally launched by Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki’s parent company in Japan, heralding a new chapter in this company’s export history.
The Fronx would be manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Gujarat. This is the acme of modern engineering in the automotive sector and holds a very important position in the export performance of the company. The decision to export the Fronx underlined the growing manufacturing capability of the country and its increasing footprints on the global platform. This will further undergird efforts by Maruti Suzuki towards quality and innovation, as well as reinforce India’s rising role in the global automotive sector.
“I am proud to share that soon, our ‘Made-in-India’ Fronx will be running on the roads in Japan”, he said. Takeuchi said, “The export exercise was significant as it proved that the company was into making vehicles of global standards. Japan ranks amongst the most quality-conscious and advanced automobile markets in the world”
He added, “Our exports to Japan would be in resonance with the capability of Maruti Suzuki to build world-class vehicles that epitomize state-of-the-art technology, great performance, and international safety and quality benchmarks. But it represents a very firm resolve for excellence. Intrinsically, Fronx embodies some of the very best engineering and design finesse, which will be a beacon of Indian automotive manufacturing excellence. I am very confident that it will be quite well-accepted by the Japanese consumer.“
Maruti Suzuki did splendid work in its export ventures in 2023-24 and outperformed by exporting over 2.8 lakh units to more than 100 countries. As regards the solidarity of performance to confirm the leadership position in passenger vehicle exports from India in the same period, it further underscored the Prime Exporter in the Auto Sector.
Further reaffirming its commitment to international markets is its best-ever export figure for any Q1 to stand at 70,560 units for FY 2024-25. This was the best Q1 export performance by Maruti Suzuki in history, which underlined strong demand in key global markets for its vehicles and the company’s sustained efforts at expanding its international footprint.
What does the strategic step by Maruti Suzuki toward the export of the Fronx SUV to Japan spell?
This act spells one too many things: the growth graph of the company and the increasing contribution of India as one of the top players in the global automobile industry. This act is a strong statement on Make in India’s abilities and becomes a precedent for further international forays.
