Anupam Kher Mourns Ratan Tata

The country is in complete shock, and so is the world of Indian cinema, upon the news about the demise of the veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. Actor Anupam Kher mourned his death and remembered meeting him in London.

Kher said: “I always believed that Ratan Tata would be with us forever. Some people, though you may not meet them every day, leave a mark on the country through their work, values, and goodness. Today, India has lost a gem and his name was Ratan Tata.

Kher also shared a brief encounter with Tata in London. “I met him a few years ago in London. We spoke for 5-10 minutes. He told me, ‘I like your comedies. I laugh when I see you sometimes. Not often, but rarely.’ More than that, Tata set a high standard in life and he will be at the top in that respect,” Kher recalled.

Kher took to Instagram on the demise of Tata: “Goodbye Mr. Ratan Tata! Thanks for your life and the lessons you left behind. Your legacy is a lesson in probity, hard work, integrity, patriotism, gentleness, kindness, and generosity. You have inspired millions and will do so for centuries. On a personal note, I will never forget our meeting. You said this to me, ‘Mr Kher, I like your comedy! You make me laugh! ‘ Thank you for teaching me how to live a life with values and principles. You will always be my favorite G.O.A.T. Jai Ho!

Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons Ratan Tata breathed his last at 86 Wednesday night at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

His body was laid at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Nariman Point, for people to pay their homage. His last journey would begin at 4 pm Thursday, the Tata Trust said.

The Maharashtra government has declared one-day mourning in his honor. Tata was an extremely popular and respected industrialist, who along with taking Tata Group to new levels made invaluable contributions to the development of India generally and philanthropy particularly. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. Tata was the Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to his retirement in 2012 and thereafter Chairman Emeritus.
