Gurseerat Kaur, a young Indian boxer recently won a gold medal in the Asian School Boxing Championship that was held in Abu Dhabi. Kaur had taken to boxing with the mere motive of losing extra flab.
“I felt tremendous pride while standing on the podium when the national flag went up,” recalls Kaur. “It was a proud moment for me, my family, and for India.”
Kaur first took up boxing during her childhood years. Her family got her enrolled in a sports complex with the hope that boxing would help her lose weight. However, once she started wearing gloves, her interest in the sport grew deep. “Initially, my family chose boxing for its weight-loss benefits, but soon I developed a genuine passion for it,” Kaur told ANI.
That zeal only increased because of constant encouragement by her parents and coaches. “My mother is my backbone. She drops me at the academy and school and sees me through thick and thin. If I have been able to continue studying while being abroad, the credit goes to her. Many athletes have to sacrifice their education for sports. My mother did not let that happen to me,” said Kaur.
Looking ahead, Kaur appears to target even bigger ambitions: “I want every tournament I participate in, there at the top let India’s flag be hoisted and our national anthem played.” That is how she set out her future aspirations for victory in the world arena.
Kaur dominated the Championship by defeating her Kazakh opponent 5-0 on the way to victory. She was skillful and determined to win with such a huge margin. Now, the wrestler has set eyes on the Commonwealth Games and further to the Olympics, striving more for India.
The more you work hard, the more medals you will win, Kaur advised. Underlining her mantra for success, the ace shooter urged aspiring athletes to chase their dreams with commitment and belief in themselves.
In brief, the recent gold medal won by Gurseerat Kaur was a sign of determination and family support. The road to even bigger stages is yet to come for her in the future, but their commitment to the sport is a nice inspiration for all.
