One of the most favorite Bollywood films Karan Arjun is all set to hit the theaters once again on November 22, starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. The film by Rakesh Roshan has been remembered for its impeccable storyline, iconic dialogues, and larger-than-life performance.
Rakesh Roshan talked about bringing the reincarnation saga of Karan Arjun back to cinemas after almost three decades. He termed the decision an “experiment” to see if the movie’s theme of reincarnation appeals to today’s audience.
“I am feeling a bit nervous because this is like an experiment,” Roshan said. The film worked then because it was a wholesome entertainer with a story about reincarnation—a mother believing that her sons would return, and they do. Let’s see if today’s generation still believes in such a story. If they enjoy the film that would mean the generation hasn’t changed. But if they don’t, it will just prove that times have changed.
Roshan also talked about the challenges he had to face with Karan Arjun. He said that convincing the audience to believe in the story of the film was hard. “It was a very difficult film for me because I had to make the audience believe the story—a mother says her two sons will come back, and they do. It was a challenge to show how they were reborn, where they were born, and the way they found their mother. As a director, convincing people was quite a journey.”
Iconic dialogues like “Mere Karan Arjun aayenge” and “Bhaag Arjun bhaag” have since then formed a part of popular culture and are widely used in memes. Roshan said, “I see memes with dialogues like ‘Mere Karan Arjun aayenge’ and ‘Bhaag Arjun bhaag.’ It’s so good to know people still remember the film, its characters, and its dialogues after 30 years. It feels good it is still fresh in people’s memory.”
He said, “I would love to act if someone offered me a role. But I wouldn’t cast myself in my own film because, as a producer. And director, I have so many responsibilities. Managing production, direction, and acting is something I am not able to handle all at once.”
Karan Arjun, released in 1995, is based on the themes of reincarnation and revenge. Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan star as brothers Karan and Arjun in the film. The movie has maintained its cult status almost for three decades. And the announcement of its re-release has built adequate enthusiasm among film enthusiasts. It will reach both single screens and multiplexes all over India, together with an international simultaneous release.
