Jolie Withdraws Lawsuit on Plane Incident

Actress Angelina Jolie has officially withdrawn her lawsuit against the Department of Justice. And the FBI related to a 2016 plane incident involving her ex-husband, Brad Pitt. This decision marks the end of a contentious legal chapter for the Oscar-winning star.

E! News confirmed that the dismissal was finalized with prejudice, meaning the case cannot be refiled. The agreement states that each party will cover its legal fees and costs.

Jolie initially filed the lawsuit in April 2022 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In court, she was identified as the anonymous “Jane Doe.” The lawsuit sought the release of documents related to an alleged domestic violence incident. That took place aboard a private jet.

In her claim, Jolie detailed that during the flight, Pitt “allegedly physically and verbally assaulted” her and their children. She described this incident as causing “lasting physical and mental trauma.” These allegations align with details from an FBI report that surfaced after the flight from Europe to Los Angeles on September 14, 2016. Reports indicated that Pitt was accused of attacking Jolie. And their son, Maddox, during this flight.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, federal authorities decided not to pursue any charges against Pitt, who has consistently denied the accusations. In her FOIA lawsuit, Jolie argued that access to the FBI documents was vital for her children. To receive necessary medical care and trauma counseling.

Initially, she also requested to have the case sealed, but a judge denied this request. Following the plane incident, Jolie filed for divorce on September 19, 2016, citing that day as their date of separation. They have continued to face legal disputes. Particularly over their former joint ownership of Chateau Miraval, a vineyard and winery in France.

Most recently, Pitt’s legal team criticized Jolie. Claiming she was engaging in a “sensationalist fishing expedition” by requesting communications related to the 2016 incident. In her defense, Jolie’s attorney emphasized her desire for resolution. Stating, “While Angelina again asks Mr. Pitt to end the fighting. And finally put their family on a clear path toward healing. Unless Mr. Pitt withdraws his lawsuit, Angelina has no choice. But to obtain the evidence necessary to prove his allegations wrong.”
