Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck will be heading toward Splitsville once more as the 55-year-old Lopez filed for divorce from 52-year-old Ben Affleck—a little over two years into the relationship already. First reported by TMZ, sources close to the matter confirmed to People magazine in what became one of the most high-profile couples of its time.
The papers were lodged by Jennifer Lopez for divorce to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20. In the documents, the date of separation is April 26, 2024. Interests for the singer and actress were self-represented in court. This is now all over for their marriage, which started with a surprise wedding in Las Vegas on 16 July 2022 and followed up immediately with a celebration in Georgia on 20 August 2022. Well, specifically, probably more so according to the reports from the People magazine, there was no prenuptial agreement between the two.
Insiders claimed she was crushed and confessed that she put much effort into the marriage. But she always claimed her kids as number one and then were her 16-year-old twins Max and Emme from ex-husband Marc Anthony. Affleck also has three kids with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner: Violet Anne, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 12.
Dubbed “Bennifer” by many, the couple rekindled their romance in 2021 nearly 17 years since they called off an engagement back in 2003. Although the “Maid in Manhattan” star and Affleck broke off their first engagement in January 2004, they seemed to have remained amicable over the years. Their romance was not publicized until April of that year after Lopez had called off her engagement to former MLB star Alex Rodriguez. They posted about it on Instagram in July 2021 and later attended the Venice Film Festival in September.
The two had announced that they were set to wed in April 2022 and soon concluded all that by getting quietly hitched in Las Vegas. They then put up a bigger ceremony in Georgia, which attending members included Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, and Jason Mewes. According to People, it was podcaster and life coach Jay Shetty who officiated the ceremony for the two.
Their recent projects have included Lopez’s Prime Video musical documentary “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story”—due out in February with the star’s album. Word of marriage trouble began to leak as recently as last May when the couple spent months apart: Lopez had movie promotions to attend to and was preparing for a tour on the horizon, while Affleck was in Los Angeles filming his next film, “The Accountant 2.”
What has come out now is that the two have been at odds all summer, with Lopez out on the opposite coast of the Hamptons while Affleck wallowed in Los Angeles. They put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale in June, and finally, Affleck got a new $20 million home. According to People Magazine, a source close to them said they did not cohabit any longer and that, for the few weeks before filing, Lopez had not seen Affleck.
