Deepak C. Mehta, Chairman and Managing Director, Deepak Nitrite Limited, has been conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Chemical Council at its 59th Annual Awards Function held in Mumbai. The award recognizes his immense contribution to the growth of the chemical manufacturing industry in India over the years.
Mehta, through his commitment to “Responsible Chemistry,” focuses on sustainable and ethical practices for the industry. Under his leadership, Deepak Nitrite and the chemical industry as a whole have been driven to achieve global leadership. Thus ensuring greater self-reliance and import substitution.
Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar conferred the award at a glittering function compared by the big[w]igs in the corporate world and academia. Including the Vice Chancellor of ICT Mumbai, Dr. Aniruddha Pandit.
Transformative Leadership
He has been very actively instrumental in positioning India as one of the important destinations for the global chemical manufacturing industry. He was past President of the Indian Chemical Council. And a member of the Task Force on Chemicals Industry with the Government of India. He chairs both the National Chemicals Committee and the Sector Skills Council at FICCI, underlining his commitment to the sector.
Mehta has led initiatives like Make in India to stress building complex processes such as fluorination and hydrogenation. His initiatives have reduced dependence on imports. And have fostered product excellence for the Nitrate, Phenol, and PMMA businesses to spur jobs and community improvement in the areas of operations.
The ICC award recognizes the contributions of Mr. Mehta in transforming Deepak Group into one of the most trusted players in the chemical space. Under the leadership of Mehta, Deepak Nitrite has embraced the spirit of sustainable growth and innovation.
Vision for the Future
Mehta also reflected upon past achievements and spoke about his future ambitions in his acceptance speech. “The Indian chemical manufacturing industry is at the threshold of great growth. Deepak Group will focus on Responsible Chemistry for enduring prosperity.” Ethics, Aesthetics, and Economics together create synergy to drive his vision for responsible growth.
Mehta espouses a cradle-to-cradle approach wherein waste is viewed as an opportunity for regeneration. “If you create a surplus, the market will manage it,” he said. Underscoring his aim for productions at a world scale. He explained, “As we make in India, we also make it for India and the world.”
This award marks another milestone in Mehta’s glittering career. And also a recognition of the services rendered by his father as ICC had bestowed the Late Chimanlal K. Mehta with a similar award earlier.
