German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann said that Chancellor Olaf Scholz will make a trip to India by the end of October. This would be on the occasion of the Inter-Governmental Consultations that will take place. Ackermann said, “Germany and India are committed to a biennial rhythm of intergovernmental consultations.” He said: “This fall, it is Delhi’s turn. The last meeting took place in spring 2022 when Prime Minister Modi visited Berlin.“
During his visit, Scholz will bring along a delegation of ministers. The two sides are expected to take up a host of key issues for discussion. “We will have a very rich agenda of subjects,” said Ackermann. The ministers are expected to meet bilaterally with their counterparts. Thereafter, Chancellor Scholz will have a meeting with Prime Minister Modi. Together, they will outline a roadmap for the next two years.
This is a very important meeting for both countries, and the agenda will be on technology, economy, and society. During PM Modi’s visit to Berlin last May 2022, both leaders recognized that digital transformation would serve as a key enabler for change. They agreed on how significant digital transformation is in enabling technology and economic development.
Apart from that, in the same meeting, Modi and Scholz signed a JDI. The said declaration laid the path for the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership. Very importantly, Germany intends to commit an investment of at least 10 billion Euros in India by 2030. They will use that investment to enhance financial and technical cooperation. The partnership will also enhance research and development between the two countries.
Both countries underlined the need to rapidly advance on the existing and future commitments. Scholz accentuated how Germany is ready to increase the scope of cooperation on global issues. This will engrave the partnership between India and Germany for a long period.
Germany and India have shared diplomatic relations since more than seventy years back. The relationship between them is based on mutual interests. A major priority is multilateral cooperation. Both countries have the target of encouraging a green digital economy.
As it approaches, preparations by both countries are on track for some healthy discussion awaiting both. They are going to work on improving relations in each field. This is going to be an important visit regarding Indo-German relations. Whichever way the visit brings about, they are both anxious.
Meanwhile, the coming visit by Chancellor Scholz stands to be another milestone. It also symbolizes a continuing commitment towards collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and mutually reinforcing growth. With this meeting fast approaching, much is in store regarding the shared future of India and Germany.
