Ananya Panday Dazzles as Heiress in ‘Call Me Bae’ Trailer

'Call Me Bae': Ananya Panday Shines as a South Delhi Heiress in New Trailer

Ananya Panday’s new comedy series ‘Call Me Bae’s trailer is finally dropped, blending humor and emotion.

This is an eight-episode comedy-drama series, full of color, following the journey of Bella Chowdhary, lovingly called Bae, played by Panday, from swanky South Delhi to kicking around the Mumbai streets as an independent hustler.

The series also stars Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.

The series’ producer, Karan Johar, posted the trailer to his Instagram with the caption, “Amidst the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, will this South Delhi heiress find her way in? Now that’s the drama we all want! #CallMeBaeOnPrime, Sept 6 @primevideoin.”.

The series is created by Ishita Moitra, produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, and is executive produced by none other than Johar himself with Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. It is directed by Collin D’Cunha, while the writing team consists of Ishita Moitra herself, along with the writers Samina Motlekar and Rohit Nair.

The trailer opens with a glimpse of Bae’s glamorous life in Delhi before she gets disinherited by her family. Cutting next to Mumbai, the adjustments she would have to make come with a different reality. Set to an energetic soundtrack, the trailer captures the journey of Bae—from using public transport for the first time to handle the issues of being a journalist in the city.

Nearly jumping with joy, Ananya Panday said, “I knew this was it—Call Me Bae was the one I was going to make my OTT debut with—right from the outset. Even before I had heard the script, instinctively, I just felt it was going to be special. Playing a multi-layered character like Bae is exciting and rewarding. Despite all her challenges, she stays true, and that was what drew me to the role. This series was my first in a long-format original, and I couldn’t be happier about having worked with a better director and cast. Excited to partner with Prime Video and Dharmatic Entertainment.

“We believe in telling stories that spark discussions at Prime Video,” said Nikhil Madhok, head of originals at Prime Video India. “‘Call Me Bae’ is a humorous yet insightful series that confirms self-discovery via a protagonist who has been most ably brought to life by Ananya panday. Our association with Dharmatic Entertainment has been tremendous and we have no doubts that this series will keep audiences worldwide engaged from September 6.”

Director Collin D’Cunha said, “Hhelming ‘Call Me Bae’ has been an absolute delight. The fresh take on the coming-of-age story and the very quirky character of Bae had me hooked. The humor within the script worked well with its deeper message, making the project stand out. Working with Dharmatic Entertainment and Prime Video has been inspiring, and I’m excited for audiences to experience the series.

Producer Karan Johar elaborated, “While most stories follow the rags-to-riches plot, Call Me Bae has an important spin to it that deals with a young girl from privilege who must re-invent herself in Mumbai. This present-day coming-of-age amusing tale of transformation, in my opinion, will resonate with audiences across India and the world. This series represents our third successful collaboration with Prime Video, with Ananya as Bae, we hope to give audiences a character who is iconic but also relatable.”

‘Call Me Bae’ is released on September 6 on Prime Video featuring Ananya Panday.
