The separation between the two notwithstanding, Ben Affleck has spoken highly of ex-wife Jennifer Lopez’s performance in their upcoming film Unstoppable. It is his coproduced movie that contains such high praise for Lopez during a recent interview.
In an interview, Affleck talked about the success of the film and the passion put into it. He spoke of Unstoppable as another kind of movie but brought up that with energy and dedication to it came from a talented cast and crew similarly: “Unstoppable is a very different movie than this, but it’s rooted in the passion of really talented artists,” said Affleck.
He pointed to the commitment of a cast that includes Lopez, Don Cheadle, Jharrel Jerome, and Bobby Cannavale. Everyone “was in, to tell the story,” Affleck said. He added that he and his producing partner Matt Damon believe in the acumen of storytelling and an actor’s connection to material.
And when asked directly about Lopez’s performance in Unstoppable, Affleck certainly did not hold back. “Jennifer’s spectacular,” he said of her performance, adding that her talent combined with her co-stars’ brought the film to life. He concluded by saying, “We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that.”
These nice words come amidst divorce proceedings between husband and wife, which have not tamed their professional collaboration. During the film’s September premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, its director, William Goldenberg, remembered that there was no tension on set considering those personal circumstances. “It’s always been about the movie,” he said.
Although Affleck has not addressed the reasons behind the divorce, Lopez has been talking about the end of their marriage. In a recent magazine interview, she spoke of growing as a person and getting individualism. “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I have to have happiness within myself,” she said.
Lopez, 55, had filed for divorce from 52-year-old Affleck on August 20, 2024, following two years of marriage.
