Google is making changes to enhance the security of Android devices to protect personal information if the phone or device gets stolen.
This new update includes two new features and enhancements to an earlier feature. Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock.
Two of these, Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock, were announced earlier this year.
The Theft Detection Lock will use artificial intelligence and device sensors to detect suspicious movements. For instance, if someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run away. The feature will immediately lock the device. This keeps the thief away from your apps and data. The system can also recognize the kind of movements associated with theft. For example, when someone takes a phone while riding a bike or sitting inside a car.
Besides that, the new Offline Device Lock increases security in the case of offline condition of the device. In case a thief disconnects the phone from the Internet for a long time, the device automatically locks. That’s how the phone stays safe even when the thief tries to keep it offline to stop tracking.
The feature of Remote Lock in Google allows the user to lock their phones remotely. This feature is pretty helpful when the option “Find My Device” is off or when the user cannot access his or her Google account. In such cases, through Remote Lock, users can lock their device with their phone number.
While Google won’t say exactly which Android devices will see these updates. It’s important to ensure that the user has the latest version of the software, Google Play Services. That enables them to receive these new anti-theft inboxes.
In all, the new tools from Google mark a great leap in Android security. If someone steals your phone, the Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock work to secure your data. Using AI and sensors, these locks will be in a position to detect theft-related movements of your gadget and thus keep it safe, even when offline. Besides, users of Android should keep abreast with the latest developments on Google Play Services to enjoy the full benefit of this improved security.
