The UAE started “Operation Chivalrous Knight 3” to restore and repair the destroyed water networks in northern Gaza. It is a move of utmost urgency toward the dreadful water shortage of the residents in this area. After signing an MoU with the Gaza Municipality, the UAE pledged urgent humanitarian assistance to restore water infrastructure in northern Gaza.
The operation rehabilitates water lines, networks, and wells across several severely affected areas. Many water facilities have suffered critical damage; 60 wells have been destroyed, desalination plants have been shut down. And main water networks have been impacted. Contamination in water, added to that, made the shortage of water worse, therefore making the restoration critical.
Through this project, the UAE aims to provide clean water to highly populated residential areas and contribute to its purification to reduce pollution and improve living conditions. This restoration process will be a development towards a better environment that should provide healthy living standards to the residential population who have faced hard times getting access to clean water. The financial investments of the UAE in water line repairs. And partial maintenance of water supply networks will save residents from the daily hustle of fetching water.
Operation “Gallant Knight 3” also includes work to support municipalities throughout the Gaza Strip. In one earlier project, the UAE rebuilt wells and water tanks in Khan Younis. The effort relieved some of the burden on the municipality there. That had been in crisis due to damaged water networks.
Supplementing what is taking place today in Northern Gaza, the UAE has built a total of six desalination plants in Rafah, Egypt. These supply a total of 1.2 million gallons per day to more than 600,000 people in Gaza. And have so far delivered a total of 130 million gallons of water. Again, this underlines the continued effort by the UAE in tackling the current water crisis in the region.
Moreover, Operation “Chivalrous Knight 3” expands its humanitarian efforts to all displaced families across various areas of Gaza. For example, the UAE provides daily water for thousands of the displaced within Gaza, easing so much suffering during the continued crisis. Such ongoing support reduces the dire experiences of residents by guaranteeing basic needs during these challenging times.
Essentially, the UAE’s Operation “Chivalrous Knight 3” stands as a witness to the importance of humanitarian interventions. With which it tries to rehabilitate and make better the water infrastructures in the northern parts of Gaza. The rehabilitation of damaged facilities, the empowerment of municipalities at the local level. And the access to clean water provided to families in displacement make the UAE an essential tool for changing many lives. This initiative underlines the UAE’s commitment even more to urgent aid, an acute water shortage that has plagued Gaza.
